Privacy

We collect the minimum we need to sell, open and improve the guides.

What we collect

When you buy or log in, we store your email address and the guides you own. Our payment provider collects and processes your payment details; NY Field Guide does not receive or store your full card number.

We record a small first-party purchase funnel: which guide, category or place led to an offer; any UTM campaign labels in the URL; and milestones such as opening the offer, starting checkout, payment and first guide open. Funnel events do not contain your email, card details or other payment information.

Inside a guide you own

When you search or filter a guide you have bought, we record the words you searched for, which kinds of filter you used, how many places came back and which results you opened, so we can tell whether the guide answers the questions people actually arrive with. We record which filters were in play, not what you set them to — the towns and categories you pick are not kept. Places you save to your list are stored against your account so the list follows you between devices.

Cookies and service providers

An essential session cookie keeps you signed in and connects a returning checkout browser to its purchase confirmation. Cloudflare helps deliver and protect the site, our payment provider handles checkout, and our mail provider delivers login and purchase links. Those providers process the information needed to perform those jobs under their own privacy terms.

The map inside a guide is the one place where your browser contacts a third party: the background map images come from OpenStreetMap, which will see your IP address and which part of the map you are looking at. Nothing else on this site loads from another host — fonts, scripts and stylesheets are all served from here.

How we use and share data

We use this information to fulfill purchases, provide account access, answer support requests, protect the service and understand where the purchase flow fails. We do not sell personal information or use third-party advertising trackers.

Your choices

Email [email protected] to ask what account information we hold, correct it or request deletion. We may retain purchase records when required for tax, accounting, fraud prevention or another legal obligation.
