Heads upParking is ample and free. Rain-or-shine policy means shows proceed in bad weather. Bring a blanket or lawn chair for the amphitheater. Festival seating on the lawn; reserved seats available for a premium. Long walks from parking to gate; comfortable shoes recommended. The venue strictly prohibits re-entry once you leave the pavilion or grounds.
The nonprofit that runs this place preserved the original 37-acre pasture where the 1969 Woodstock festival took place. Walk about half a mile north on Hurd Road and you'll find the granite monument marking where the stage stood; it's free to visit anytime.
This amphitheater holds 15,000 people: 4,800 under the covered pavilion, another 10,200 on the sloped lawn behind it, with the Catskills lined up behind the stage. 2026 marks the venue's 20th season. The summer calendar runs from Hardy's country-rock season opener through James Taylor, Jason Aldean, a 20th-anniversary show headlined by the Beach Boys on July 24, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Billy Strings across two nights at the end of July.
The Museum
The museum next door is compact on purpose: a 132-seat theater and a 4,300-square-foot gallery packed with firsthand material from the weekend. Festival photographs, first-person accounts from people who were there among the roughly 400,000 who showed up, and a period school bus fitted out the way one would have looked pulling in off Route 17B fill the space. Plan on 90 minutes, longer if you read every panel.
Grounds and the monument are free to visit year-round; the museum and concerts are ticketed separately, with lawn seats usually the cheapest way into a show. Bring a blanket or a low lawn chair. Lawn seating is general admission, no assigned spots. Wear shoes built for walking, since it's a real distance from the parking fields to the gate. Shows go on rain or shine, and once you're through the gate for a concert, there's no stepping back out to your car.
