Barton Orchards has been the Hudson Valley's destination farm for more than 40 years, and its 122 acres are built for a full day rather than a quick stop. The place operates year-round, but August through October is when it earns its reputation: a sunflower festival kicks off the season in August, apple and pumpkin picking run through October, and a flashlight corn maze turns the grounds into a late-night adventure once the nights cool.
Apple picking works the old way: you ride out on farm wagons, pick into baskets, and pay by weight. The varieties ripen in succession through the season, so you're never quite picking the same apples twice.
