Its nationally recognized cross-country course draws heavy use from area high school and college teams every fall.
The trails wind toward the river and work best as a short loop before or after the playground rather than as a destination hike on their own. We bring binoculars here, especially in winter, because bald eagles turn up regularly enough that even a day mostly about the splash pad can yield a sighting.
