Colgate Lake sits at 2,051 feet in the Colgate Lake Wild Forest, a 1,500-acre block of Catskill Forest Preserve in Greene County's Town of Jewett. At 29 acres with a little over a mile of shoreline, the water stays cold and clear well into summer. The no-motors rule keeps the place quiet, so outside of July and August weekends, swimmers mostly have the lake to themselves.
The day-use parking area is on County Route 78 along the north shore.
