Croton Gorge Park sits directly below the New Croton Dam (also called the Cornell Dam), a masonry dam completed in 1907 that supplies part of New York City's water. Water spills more than 200 feet down the face into the gorge, and the main overlook puts you close enough to catch spray on a high-water day. The Old Croton Aqueduct Trail, which traces NYC's original 1842 water tunnel, begins right from the parking lot and runs south for miles if you want to stretch your visit beyond the picnic area.
