La Catrina
La Catrina in Croton-on-Hudson serves modern Mexican from chef Enrique Estrada: ceviche, house moles, margaritas, and molcajete for sharing.
Enrique Estrada and his wife Consuelo, who grew up in Mexico City, opened this 50-seat room in December 2021. Enrique had spent years as executive chef at Half Moon in Dobbs Ferry and X2O Xaviars on the Hudson in Yonkers, working under chef Peter Kelly. The dining room skips the usual Mexican-restaurant clichés: hand-painted Mexican folk pieces commissioned for the space hang on the walls, and the menu draws from Mexico City cooking rather than border-town standards.
The kitchen makes its own chorizo and two moles from scratch: a dark, bitter poblano and a lighter Oaxaca-style, plus hand-cranked ice cream that rotates with the season.
