Incorporated in 1849 as Tarrytown Cemetery and renamed Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in 1865, this 90-acre garden cemetery is one of the Hudson Valley's most historically significant grounds. Washington Irving was a cofounder, working alongside Captain Jacob Storm to get it built, and his grave, a modest headstone with none of the grandeur around it, draws more visitors than any mausoleum on the property.
