Rockefeller State Park Preserve protects 1,771 acres in Sleepy Hollow and Pleasantville, most of it stitched together by 55 miles of carriage roads that John D. Rockefeller Sr. and Jr. laid out for horse-drawn rides in the early 1900s. The carriage roads here are the attraction: wide, well-drained crushed stone without the roots or loose rock that slow most Hudson Valley trails.
