Blue Mountain Reservation

Blue Mountain Reservation sits on the boundary between Cortlandt and Peekskill in northern Westchester, and mountain bikers discovered it long before most hikers did. Trailforks and the regional riding crowd rank its roughly 30 miles of singletrack among the toughest technical networks in the Northeast, threading rock gardens, granite slabs, and root-covered climbs across 1,538 acres of glacier-scoured hills. Show up on a Saturday and you'll share the trail with a steady stream of riders; we'd pick a weekday morning instead, when the granite slabs and secluded ponds along the quieter loops are close to empty.
