Hudson Valley MOCA took over a 12,000-square-foot warehouse on Peekskill's Main Street in 2001, founded by Marc and Livia Straus. The nonprofit has long been known as HVCCA, the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art. The space kept its bones: concrete floors, exposed steel, and tall factory windows. Rather than converting to white-cube gallery walls, these raw architectural elements set the tone before you see a single painting.
