Pieter Bronck built the oldest section here in 1663, a single room with a cellar and storage garret, and by most accounts the oldest building still standing in upstate New York. His grandson Leendert added a larger brick house in 1738, connected to the original by a short brick passageway, and the family added a stone rear wing in 1792 using the same building methods as the first house. The property stayed in Bronck hands for eight generations, close to 276 years, before the Greene County Historical Society took it over in the late 1930s. That's why it doesn't feel staged.
