Ben Feder planted Clinton Corners in 1976 chasing a European vineyard dream. The Cassis is the only American black currant wine to win international gold.
Ben Feder started this place in 1976, a Bronx-born book designer who fell for the Mid-Hudson Valley and built a vineyard modeled on the small European estates he admired, on a 100-acre property with 15 acres planted in Seyval Blanc. His first vintage, the 1977 harvest bottled in 1978, ran 300 cases and picked up medals up and down the East Coast.
The Cassis is the thing to know about here. When New York lifted its old ban on growing black currants, Feder jumped on it, and the resulting dessert wine remains the only American Cassis to win gold medals in international competition.
