Franny Reese State Park preserves 251 acres of rare undeveloped bluff-top forest in Highland, named for Frances "Franny" Reese (1917-2003), a conservation pioneer who spent decades fighting to keep the Hudson Valley from being paved over. She was central to the long campaign against Con Edison's proposed Storm King pumped-storage plant, which helped launch the modern environmental movement on this river. Scenic Hudson bought the land in 2003; the state parks system took ownership in 2009, with Scenic Hudson still managing it day to day.
