Mid-Hudson Children's Museum in Poughkeepsie has climbing walls, hands-on exhibits, and a glass elevator that drops to the Hudson River promenade below.
The museum rebranded to the Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum in 2022 and stretched its target age to 12 by opening Science Revealed!, sixteen hands-on exhibits on motion, air, forces, fluids, and magnetism. The hands-on spirit runs through everything: climbing walls, an imaginative-play floor, rotating installations that invite touching and exploring.
The riverside setting does a lot of the work. Descend via glass elevator from the exhibit floors to the promenade and you've got a built-in second activity: a pedestrian bridge across to the waterfront trail on the far bank.
