DuBois Farms in Highland: 500-plus fruit trees, pick Honeycrisp apples, eat warm cider donuts from the bakery, or order wood-fired pizza.
The land that is now DuBois Farms was headed toward becoming a subdivision until Dave and Jolee DuBois bought the original 54 acres in the early 2000s and started replanting. Two decades of grafting and expansion later, including a neighboring parcel, the orchard holds 500-plus trees: Honeycrisp, Ever Crisp, Jonagold, McIntosh, plus stone fruit and berries that cycle through the season. Cherries arrive in June and July, peaches in August, raspberries by the Fourth of July, and apples stick around through October.
Around the orchard, the farm has built out everything for a full day: a farm market and bakery (the apple cider donuts, served warm, are the reason a lot of people make the drive), a wood-fired pizzeria, and a tavern pouring local cider, wine, and craft beer.
