Rosendale Trestle: a 940-foot, 150-foot-high rail bridge from 1872, reopened in 2013 over Rondout Creek as part of the 22-mile Wallkill Valley trail.
The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail runs more than 22 miles along the old Wallkill Valley Railroad bed, through Gardiner, New Paltz, Rosendale, and Ulster before ending in Kingston. The surface is packed stone and gravel, good for a hybrid or gravel bike, fine for horses, fine for skis once there's snow, and it holds up well even a day or two after rain.
The trestle at Rosendale is the reason people drive in from out of county. Built in 1872, it was the highest span bridge in the country at the time.
