Rosendale Theatre in Rosendale kept its 1949 tin ceiling and screen. Saved from developers in 2010, it runs silent films and Godzilla nights for $10.
Walk into the Rosendale Theatre and you're looking at the same tin ceiling (peeling in spots, in the good way) and single screen that Anthony Cacchio Sr. installed in this Main Street building in 1949 when he opened it with Blood on the Moon. The Cacchio family ran it for more than sixty years before deciding to hand it to the town rather than sell to a developer. The Rosendale Theatre Collective formed in late 2009 to buy and save it, raising the down payment through roughly sixty small fundraisers, a state grant from Assemblyman Kevin Cahill, and an unexpected windfall from Pepsi's social media Refresh Project. The Collective took ownership on August 19, 2010, and more than a hundred volunteers keep it running today.
