Back to Hudson Valley Field Guide

The performing venues scattered across the Hudson Valley came into being because artists and programmers refused to accept what was already available elsewhere. Shadowland Stages in Ellenville was built by theater makers who left New York City in 1985 and rescued an abandoned Art Deco vaudeville house. Time and Space Limited in Hudson exists because its founders rejected compromise and relocated their entire operation here in 1991. The Rosendale Theatre was saved from developers by volunteer effort in 2010. They're run by people who chose to build what they wanted to see rather than accept what was handed to them. The guide covers eight venues: indie film rooms and restored movie palaces, working theater companies across Beacon, Ellenville, Hudson, Kingston, New Paltz, Rhinebeck, Rosendale, and Woodstock.
