When Chris Basso returned to Newburgh after training at the French Culinary Institute and working at Brooklyn Brewery, he and Paul Halayko launched Orange County's first craft brewery in spring 2012, with Charlie Benedetti joining soon after. They claimed one of the city's oldest industrial buildings: constructed in the 1850s as the Wright Steam Engine Works, it later became the Newburgh Paper Box Company, a factory that employed over a hundred people before shutting down in 1980. Soaring ceilings and exposed brick walls frame the space. Long community tables are built for strangers to end up sharing a bench.
