Read the placards carefully: the collection goes deeper than a couple of trucks in a barn. Hand-drawn and horse-drawn rigs from the 1700s, hand-pumped engines, alarm boxes, brass helmets, and motorized trucks trace the full arc from bucket brigades to modern engines. The discovery room lets kids climb into a real cab, work a wheel, and ring a bell, getting hands-on with retired apparatus instead of looking at it from behind a rope.
The museum is in a restored historic building on Harry Howard Avenue, a short walk from Warren Street's restaurants and shops.
