Milt Meisner built Hudson Farmers' Market from five vendors in 1997, and it's still run as a member-owned business league where each vendor votes equally.
Milt Meisner and Doc Posner started this market in the winter of 1997, after Hudson lost its only grocery store and Meisner had seen what a farmers market did for Saratoga. Meisner went, in founding vendor Virginia Ambrose's words, door to door, barn to barn, and farm to farm asking people to join him; most said no, but enough said yes to open with five vendors selling vegetables, eggs, honey, soap, herbal oils, tree fruit, cactus, plants, and yarn. Growth was slow enough in the early years that some of those first vendors nearly gave up before customers started showing up regularly.
