Giant Ledge in Big Indian rises 1.5 miles to a rock outcrop with views across Catskill ridgelines, or continue to Panther Mountain at 3,724 feet.
The trailhead is a hairpin turn on County Road 47 (Oliverea Road), south of Big Indian: a roadside pull-off that holds about fifteen cars and is usually full by 9am on summer and fall weekends. Look for the yellow trail marker across the road and a wooden footbridge over the stream; that's the start.
From there it's 1.5 miles of steady, rocky climbing to Giant Ledge, a wide rock outcrop that opens onto ridge after ridge of the central Catskills. It's real climbing for a short hike, and the view is the payoff.
