Otter Falls
Otter Falls in Big Indian is a 30-foot drop into a deep swimming hole, just a third of a mile from Route 47 and perfect for cooling off after a climb.
Otter Falls drops about 30 feet into a basin on Esopus Creek, on state land in the Big Indian Wilderness. The pool spans 20 to 30 feet wide with a 6 to 8 foot center depth, enough to swim laps or float. The water is cold enough after spring runoff or a hard rain that it takes your breath for a second before it feels good.
The walk in is short, roughly a third of a mile from the Route 47 pull-off on a rooty, sometimes muddy side trail.
