Mills-Norrie State Park runs along the Hudson's west bank in Staatsburg, more than 1,000 acres split between the old Ogden and Ruth Livingston Mills estate and the adjoining Margaret Lewis Norrie parkland. The signature hike is the Norrie Point Trail, a 5.2-mile loop through forest and along the shoreline. Watch for white-tailed deer and red foxes in the woods, and near the water, red-shouldered hawks, herons, and the occasional bald eagle.
The park earns its reputation as a base for exploring the mid-Hudson: the Culinary Institute of America and the historic Hyde Park estates sit minutes away, and the grounds hold plenty on their own.
