Frederick W. Vanderbilt built this 54-room mansion from 1898 to 1899, commissioning McKim, Mead & White to design it in the Beaux-Arts style. Unlike the grander Vanderbilt houses in Newport or Asheville, this was sized for spring and fall use. The original furnishings remain throughout the rooms.
