Holy Cow in Red Hook scoops soft-serve ice cream at prices frozen in time, with lines wrapping the building on warm summer evenings.
Holy Cow sits on South Broadway just outside the village center with prices that seem frozen in time: $1.50 for a kids' scoop, $3.50 to $4.50 for a regular one. In a decade when everything else in Dutchess County got more expensive, the prices here haven't. Both the soft serve and the hard ice cream hold up on their own, which is why the line runs past the door and around the side of the building on a warm July evening.
The shop itself is small, just a counter and a couple of tables inside, so the real seating is out front, a row of picnic tables where families, couples, and regulars sit with sundaes and slices of the custom ice cream cakes the shop makes to order for birthdays and parties.
