Taso Gionnoulis brought his family's Greek recipes home to Red Hook at Mazi. Order the grilled octopus with pork belly and fig glaze, his favorite.
Taso Gionnoulis has run Enzo's Ristorante & Pizza in Kingston for more than 20 years, but Mazi is personal in a different way. It's Greek food, in his hometown, named after the Greek word for "together." He talked the idea over with his daughters, Stasia and Yianna, before opening it in the old Salvatore's space on North Broadway. The dining room, done in soft blues, whites, and grays with Greek key patterns on the walls, is built for a table of six splitting plates, not a solo dinner at the bar.
