Market St. in Rhinebeck is a wood-fired Italian kitchen where regulars order the fig pizza and rotating rigatoni without looking at the menu.
Gianni Scappin opened Market St. in 2012 with business partner Lois Freedman, returning to Rhinebeck after years running the kitchen at Gigi Trattoria down the street. He grew up in Marostica, a small town in Italy's Veneto region, and still manages Cucina in Woodstock alongside this place. The space carries a sleek, modern feel: marble counters and an open layout built around a wood-burning brick oven that turns out Neapolitan-style pies.
The kitchen makes pasta to order, including gluten-free versions, alongside wood-fired pizzas, grilled fish, and dishes that shift with the season.
