The Corner Counter in Red Hook has sold provisions since the 1860s. Cheese counter and Hudson Valley drinks draw customers here.
This Second Empire corner building has anchored Red Hook's Four Corners for more than 160 years, serving over the decades as a grocery, a general store, and a deli. Lauren Cunningham-Housman, who spent years as a cheesemonger at Murray's Cheese in Manhattan before moving to Red Hook, opened The Corner Counter in April 2023 and built the shop around her cheese counter.
Walk in and you're greeted with faux-wood floors, floor-to-ceiling wallpaper, a navy banquette with outlets built into the bench, and furniture picked up at local antique shops and yard sales rather than ordered from catalogs. The space has the feeling of a place with history, where people settle in and stay.
