Scenic Hudson RiverWalk Park in Tarrytown spans 5.2 acres on a former asphalt site with grass terraces and esplanade facing the Tappan Zee Bridge.
Scenic Hudson RiverWalk Park sits on the site of an asphalt plant that ran on this stretch of waterfront for 80 years before Scenic Hudson, the village, and the county worked out a deal to move the plant elsewhere and open the shoreline to the public instead. What's here now is 5.2 acres of grass terraces, a wide paved esplanade along the water, and an eco-corridor of native plantings that buffers the park from the road and the rail line. The plantings have filled in enough that it doesn't feel new anymore, even though the whole transformation happened within the last couple of decades.
