Spotty Dog Books & Ale in Hudson fills an 1889 firehouse with books, ale, and art supplies, run by a descendant of the original firehouse family.
The building went up in 1889 as the first firehouse of the C.H. Evans Hook & Ladder Company, named for Cornelius H. Evans, a Hudson brewer and politician whose Evans Cream Ale was known well beyond Columbia County in its day. A descendant of the Evans family opened Spotty Dog here in 2005, which makes the beer taps a fitting echo of the building's original namesake.
