Naked Flock in Warwick takes its name from a Warwick legend about geese sleeping on poppies. The apples come from a farm operating since 1949.
The Warwick farm behind Naked Flock goes back to 1949, when Dr. Donald Hull bought the land so his son David could grow fruit for a living. Neighbors quickly called David "Apple Dave," and the name stuck. The orchard he built became one of the oldest working farms west of the Hudson and Orange County's oldest, even after a 1975 fire wiped out a season's harvest. The winery itself came later, in 1994; the Naked Flock cider and mead brand followed in 2012.
