About 50 miles from the city, Apple Ridge sits on rolling fields and deserves a full afternoon. U-pick opens in late August with apples, continues through pumpkins in mid-September, and runs Thursday to Sunday, 9am to 6pm, plus holidays. Closed Monday through Wednesday, so check ahead if planning a weekday trip. Over 20 apple varieties ripen across the property, including dwarf trees planted low enough for a four-year-old to pick unassisted.
