Vintage furniture and plush seating from the antique shop out front fill the room; it's as much gallery as bar. Backbar occupies a converted garage tucked behind that shop on Warren Street. Chef Zak Pelaccio opened it in 2015 with Fish & Game co-chef Kevin Pomplun and business partner Patrick Milling Smith, a few doors from Pelaccio's flagship restaurant. Fish & Game had already won him the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Northeast the year before, and Backbar became its younger, later-hours sibling.
