Hudson River Cruises has run the Rip Van Winkle II out of Kingston's Rondout waterfront for more than 35 years, picking up a Hudson Valley Magazine "Best of Hudson Valley" award most years along the way. The boat holds up to 300 passengers across three decks: an open-air upper deck with benches, a partly covered middle deck, and a fully enclosed lower deck with a snack bar and restrooms. There's a spot to sit whether you want sun, shade, or air conditioning.
The standard 90-minute cruise runs south toward Hyde Park, passing the Rondout and Esopus lighthouses, old river estates, and small towns along the shore, while the crew narrates the Hudson's history as a shipping and industrial corridor.
