Kingston's Forsyth Nature Center: free since 1936, 24 exhibits on 18.5 acres where you hand-feed peacocks, goats, and alpacas with carrots and lettuce.
The Forsyth Nature Center has been a Kingston fixture since 1936, when it opened as the Forsyth Park Zoo after a wandering bear became its first exhibit. It's now a community nature preserve run by the City of Kingston Parks and Recreation with volunteer support, stretching across 18.5 acres that the Forsyth sisters donated in 1855. Within those acres sit 24 animal exhibits and a dozen native flora gardens.
