Hudson Valley Food Hall in Beacon sits under a 35-foot ceiling inside an old theater, with five kitchens serving barbecue, Bangladeshi, Indian, and more.
The Roosevelt Theater closed in 1964, but the building didn't stay quiet for long. It became Main Street Market, then Royalty Carpet, the store that had occupied the space since the early 1980s, then sat empty for two years before Hudson Valley Food Hall opened at 288 Main Street in 2019. Architect Jelena Kos kept the original 35-foot ceilings, which still make this the biggest-feeling space on Main Street, and worked the theater's memory into murals that mix street art with nods to the building's movie-poster past.
The vendors here have taken root.
