Trax Coffee Roasters in Beacon roasts its own beans in a converted factory along the train tracks and pours an exceptional cup.
Trax started in 2009 as an extension of Bank Square Coffeehouse, when Beacon owners Buddy and Katy Bell Behney, who'd already opened Mountain Tops Outfitters in 2006, decided their coffee shop should roast its own beans. It became its own operation in 2017 in a renovated factory building at 1 East Main, the Behneys' third business in town, and the name comes from the obvious: the building sits right along the train tracks.
The retail cafe on East Main is bright and casual, good for a quick espresso or an hour with a laptop. The Groveville Mills roastery on Fishkill Ave, open weekday mornings, is where you can walk in and watch the roasting, smell it, and pick up beans straight off the machine.
