Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie is Dutchess County's oldest arts organization in an 1840s Greek Revival townhouse. Five shows yearly, many juried.
The Barrett House is a Greek Revival brick townhouse built in the early 1840s. Poughkeepsie banker Thomas Barrett and his wife Kate moved in around 1900. Their son, Thomas Weeks Barrett Jr., was born in 1902 and grew up to become a WPA muralist. In 1934, he organized Dutchess County's first art show, filling the top floor of the nearby Luckey-Platt department store with roughly fifty local artists showing work.
