Cinnamon Indian Cuisine in Rhinebeck cooks from across India and Sri Lanka, not just one region, with dosas worth the trip alone.
Recently arrived in the US from Sri Lanka and southern India, Chaminda and Shiwanti Widyarathna opened Cinnamon in 2010, almost by accident. Shiwanti was working at a Connecticut coffee shop; her manager had toured a space on Route 9 south of the village, decided it wasn't right for him, and told her he thought it would suit them. The restaurant has since moved to the center of Rhinebeck, occupying an unassuming storefront at 51 East Market Street that undersells what's coming out of the kitchen. The main dining room downstairs features a long communal table for groups.
