Foster's Coach House Tavern in Rhinebeck dates to 1890, seats you in a converted horse stall. London Broil has been the reason to come for decades.
A Yankees owner once sat at this bar. Colonel Jacob Ruppert, who brought Babe Ruth to the Bronx, was a regular when the Village Tavern was young, back in 1890. Wally Foster bought it in 1933 and renamed it after himself, then in 1941 gave it the equestrian character that still surrounds us: racing prints and tack hung on the walls, booths carved into what used to be horse stalls. The Kirwood family kept the place running for over fifty years until 2017, when father-son team Neil and Elijah Bender took ownership.
