Lincoln Depot Museum in Peekskill marks where the president-elect and his funeral train both stopped; exhibits include rare life masks and artifacts.
The Lincoln Depot Museum occupies the actual freight depot where President-elect Lincoln's train stopped on February 19, 1861, at 2pm. He stepped out to speak to the crowd, estimated by the local Highland Democrat at about 1,500 people (nearly half the town's population), and asked for their support during the secession crisis already underway. Four years later, on the evening of April 25, 1865, his funeral train retraced the same route and paused at this same depot for about ten minutes. Mourners along the platform stood bareheaded as it passed.
