Peekskill Museum
An 1877 Victorian designed by William Rutherford Mead, this Peekskill Museum building displays cast-iron stoves tracing the town's industrial history.
The Peekskill Museum lives inside the Herrick House, a Queen Anne with Shingle Style details built in 1877 for Dwight Herrick, an Amherst College classmate of architect William Rutherford Mead. Mead's firm wouldn't become McKim, Mead & White until 1879, when Stanford White joined, so the house predates the name most people know it by, though it's unmistakably from the same hand that later designed Grand Central Terminal.
Ida M. Adams donated the house to the city, and a citizen campaign led by Chester A.
