Top Taste runs from a bare storefront on Hasbrouck Avenue. Albert Bartley and his wife have been cooking Jamaican food here for more than a decade: jerk chicken, oxtail stew, curry goat, plantains, rice and peas. In 2020, the James Beard Foundation named Bartley a semifinalist for Best Chef: New York State, one of the only nominees that year from outside New York City.
The jerk comes properly spiced, with heat that builds instead of hitting all at once.
