Taste Budd's in Red Hook, a bakery cafe by James Beard-nominated pastry chef Dan Budd, bakes hand-dipped chocolates and pastries in-house daily.
The shop sits on West Market Street in Red Hook's village center, anchored by mismatched furniture, local art on the walls, and couches softened by years of regulars. There are enough outlets that laptop workers and homework-bound teenagers claim tables for the afternoon, making it a de facto workspace for half the town.
Dan Budd runs the place with his wife, Julie. He trained as a pastry chef, earned a James Beard Foundation nomination in 1996, and worked at the River Cafe and the Peninsula Hotel in New York City before teaching at the Culinary Institute of America.
