Garvan's occupies a 1759 home on Huguenot Street, where owner Garvan McCloskey has kept the original character: wide-board floors, deep window sills, locust trees out front. The dining rooms feel authentically historic. The screened porch overlooks the lawn and gardens and is where we'd sit from May through October.
The kitchen balances Irish pub standards with New American cooking: shepherd's pie and braised short ribs alongside pan-seared scallops over risotto in a lemon beurre blanc.
