Hokkaido sits on Church Street, a quiet side street a block off New Paltz's Main Street, in a small dining room that fills up fast on weekends. Owner Jeri works the sushi bar himself, alongside a small crew turning out tempura, soba noodles, and hamachi kama (grilled yellowtail collar) right alongside the nigiri and rolls. The hamachi kama is worth asking about even when it's not listed as a special. Every entrée comes with complimentary miso soup, and the kitchen keeps gluten-free soy sauce on hand for anyone who needs it.
